Patriarchy and Gender-stereotypical roles in Pakistan.

Sad to see the level of education at a well-reputed school of Karachi, Pakistan.
Young minds are heavily indoctrinated with these kind of teachings since an early age. As the minds are developing, these kind of gender-stereotypical roles create mental schemas within the minds.
Patriarchy and misogyny are playing a key position in producing adverse effects on the mental health of men and women both.
As a clinical psychologist and working in this conservative society of Pakistan I see females are more vulnerable and prone to psychological issues, such as depression, anxiety, poor self-image, comparison, deprivation, irrational fears, irritability, dramatization, ageism, increased sensitivity etc. Making them restrict to specific roles hinders their progress in other dimensions of life.
Even men are also effected by these gender-stereotypical roles. It puts undue economical pressure on men, narrow prescription of masculinity on men, risk-taking behavior and discourages help-seeking or health-enhancing behavior, encouraging violent behaviors, suppressing their emotional expression.
We need to upgrade our thinking and start imparting education and awareness among the children of our schools that focuses on gender equality and sharing the responsibilities within the household without any discrimination of sex roles.
